Mitchell may only be 18 but he's a big kid with plenty of natural ability and a smart contest strategy. Very cool on land, Mitch already has a list of impressive contest results that has his peers closely watching.

Athlete History

Mitchell is one of Australia’s top Cadet surfers. The powerful goofy footer from Maroochydore has always been able to back up his precocious ability with outstanding contest results. At only 16, Mitchel surfs with a style and level of maturity only seen in the higher ranks of surfing.

Out There Management asked Mitchel to join their management team after he was spotted at the OE/HB 2001 pro junior with no sponsorship. Mitchell blew minds with his powerful and on rail surfing and was instantly pickup by a swag of sponsors. Since then Mitchell has continued to develop his surfing and has the whole industry buzzing about his potential.

In 2002 Mitchell’s competition results where outstanding. He was consistently placed in final rounds beating many of his peers. He also had some photo’s published in the top national surfing magazines and generally cemented his reputation as one of Australia’s rising star’s. He also featured in a local surfing video and in many TV news interviews.

In 2003 Mitchell competed in selected ASP junior series events. He achieved some fantastic results including a 5th at the Brothers Neilson Pro junior on the Gold Coast. In August this year Mitchel proved to the surfing world that he is one of the best in the world and finished 3rd in the U/16 Quiksilver ISA World Junior surfing Championships in Durban, South Africa.

Mitchell also featured in his first double page Volcom advertisement. And also featured in an Etnies Ad.(see media gallery). This is a great achievement and proves the confidence and support Mitchell sponsors have in his ability.

In 2004 Mitchell really started to show his maturity. He went on several international promotional trips including going to America for the Volcom World championships and Hawaii for the end of season. Mitchell competed in all ASP junior events and finished the year in 14th position.

This year Mitchell is focusing on a top 10 finish in the juniors. He is also competing in selected WQS events in Australia, America and Europe.

Mitchell is destined to become a successful professional surfer. His cadet/junior career is already been closely followed and he is ensured to make major upsets as he carves his way to the top.
