Athlete History
Since signing with the international
company Salomon, Dan has gone from strength
to strength over the past 18 months. Riding
their new super light S-Core Dan is blasting
the competition away and has the industry and
his sponsors buzzing about the years ahead.
At just 20 years of age, Dan
has created a deep seeded respect among his
peers and the surfing industry. His maturity
in the water has gained him incredible exposure
and will see him make the big step onto the
World Championship Tour before to long.
When
Dan was 17 he and few of his surfing mates went
to the Mentawai’s (Indonesia) for a photo
shoot. Here Dan showed the surfing world his
talents in large waves when he scored the wave
of the trip and the cover of ASL’S September
2000 issue. From then on, Dan has kept the accolades
coming. He was voted as the number 2 junior
big wave rider in ASL magazine 2001 hottest
100 behind Joel Parkinson. Dan also had some
fantastic results in the 2001 Junior Series.
He came second to Shaun Cansdell in the Lost/
Badboy event at Newcastle and finished the junior
ratings for 2001 in 15th position.
Dan spent 3 months of the
2002 season competing in Europe and working
with his sponsor Salomon. Having the add luxury
of being a dual passport holder Dan was able
to compete in the European pro junior series.
Here he blasted his rivals away to finish an
overall 2nd in the 2002 European Pro Junior
Series going out on a high winning the last
pro junior event in Portugal
Last year Dan stepped it up
a notch and won the 2003 Australasian Junior
Ratings. He won 2 pro junior events, including
the richest pro junior event the Jetty pro and
the Billabong PRO-Teen Series at Duranbah Beach
on the Gold Coast. One week after being crowned
Junior Champion Dan won the prestigious OE/HB
pro Junior.
Dan was also granted the wild card for 2003
6 Star WQS Salomon Pro at Margaret River. In
monstrous conditions Dan surfed brilliantly
against his older peers beating the 2002 world
champion in their round of 64 clash. Dan finished
the event in 17th position.
In 2004 Dan set his goal on the top 100 which
he achieved with some solid results to finsh
the year in 76th positon. This achievement underpinned
a consistent run of results on that circuit
which has seen him often defeat WCT surfers
in heats and also make his first WQS final in
the 2004 , the 2 Star WQS, Hyuga Salomon Masters.
This year Dan is focusing on a top 40 WQS
result end of year rating. With strong support
from all his sponsors and the ability to beat
